Rich Internet Application

PowerTeacher is the first example in educational technology of a new category of software called the "Rich Internet Application" or RIA. RIAs are web applications that have the features and functionality of traditional desktop applications but run from a web browser and do not require software installation. PowerTeacher transfers the processing required to run the user interface to the web application, but keeps the bulk of the data (i.e., maintaining the state or the program, student data, etc.) on the application server. This provides teachers with a more traditional gradebook experience, but with all the convenience and security of a web-based technology.

Revolutionary User Interface

PowerTeacher simplifies the tasks teachers perform daily by creating a central repository for taking attendance, entering grades, initiating student and parent communication, posting assignments, and assessing student alerts and demographic information. Since PowerTeacher is web-based, teachers can work from anywhere there is an Internet connection. In fact, because PowerTeacher runs as an RIA, it is the only web-based gradebook that allows teachers to continue entering a section's assignments and scores even if the connection to the central server has been lost. PowerTeacher will later save the section's grades back to the central server once the connection has been restored. Because of its incredibly intuitive and aesthetically pleasing user interface, you can have all of your teachers up and running on PowerTeacher with only a minimal amount of training.

Secure Universal Access

Since PowerTeacher is entirely web-based, teachers and IT Staff can access it anytime, anywhere an Internet connection exists. As a result, upgrades are made from a central office and are available immediately, over the Internet. IT staff no longer have to spend time moving from school to school in order to upgrade software.

Security is a priority at every district and that's why we built PowerTeacher with robust security measures. PowerTeacher is encrypted, password protected and it has a customizable time-out feature that locks the gradebook down when not in use. In addition, PowerTeacher has a session termination feature that automatically closes a previous session if a teacher logs in from another computer, preventing unauthorized access.
